Luxo Jr.

While reading through my papers this morning, I stumbled upon a shadowing technique used in Pixar’s first animation movie: Luxo Jr. The short film is about two desk lamps called Luxo and Luxo Jr. playing with a ball. Anyone who ever saw a Pixar movie will no doubt recognize Luxo Jr. as the desk lamping jumping on the “I” of Pixar in the beginning of a movie.

Just for the record, this short film was made in 1986! Rendering one single frame took around 90 minutes back in those days. The film itself can be found here. Twenty years later they still haven’t lost their touch!
